Frequently asked questions

The most common questions about our agency and the insurance process.

Who is Santerna Insurance and where do you operate?

Santerna Insurance is an insurance agency with its office in Ümraniye. There are no borders in insurance: we serve customers anywhere in Türkiye by phone, WhatsApp and online meetings. We are not tied to a single insurer; we compare quotes from nearly 30 insurers for you.

Is getting a quote free?

Yes. We do not charge for preparing a quote or explaining the options that fit your needs.

Is it more expensive to buy through an agency?

Buying through an agency generally does not mean an extra fee; the agency's commission is paid by the insurer. In every quote we try to show clearly what the premium includes.

What information do you need for a quote?

It depends on the type. For health, age and number of people; for kasko, vehicle registration and licence details; for home, the address and floor area. Our forms do not ask for health details; if needed we talk by phone.

Do you remind me when my policy ends?

Yes. We track your policies' end dates, call you before renewal and compare quotes again.

What should I do if I need to claim?

First make things safe, document the situation (photos, report) and call us. We run the notification to the insurer and the paperwork with you.

Is my personal data safe?

We use your data only to contact you and prepare quotes. When you fill in the form you are asked to confirm the privacy notice.

How can I reach you?

By WhatsApp, phone (0 (216) 706 69 87), email (info@santernasigorta.com) or the "Call me back" form on the site. Our office is in Ümraniye.

Do I have to accept the health insurance renewal offer?

No. A renewal is an offer; you have every right to compare the cover and get quotes from other insurers before accepting. We suggest starting at least 30 days before the policy end date.

If I switch insurer at renewal, do waiting periods restart?

Often the new insurer applies its own terms; waiting periods may restart and existing conditions may be excluded. Get these terms in writing before you switch.

I never claimed, so why did my premium go up?

The premium is not set only by your personal claims. General growth in healthcare costs and your changing age group also affect it.

Can my cover be reduced at renewal?

The insurer may update limits and conditions at renewal. That is why you should put the new offer next to last year's cover table and check it.

What happens if there is even a one-day gap when my policy ends?

If a gap occurs, there is no cover on those days and waiting periods may apply again on the new policy. So complete the renewal before the end date.

What is the minimum number of employees for group health insurance?

The number varies by insurer and product. Some insurers offer group policies for small teams; share your headcount and we will find suitable options.

Can family members be added to the group?

Many policies let you add spouses and children as an option. You decide whether the employer or the employee pays for the family premium.

When is a new employee added to the policy?

They should be reported to the insurer soon after joining. Late notice can cause trouble at claim time; we can handle that follow-up for you.

What happens to the policy when an employee leaves?

The leaver is removed from the policy. Some insurers may offer a move to an individual policy; ask about this in advance.

How are premiums handled for accounting and tax?

Practice can vary between businesses, so we recommend speaking to your accountant.

Why do two quotes with the same cover have different premiums?

Insurers differ in risk assessment, deductible, hospital or service network and claims policy. The price gap often reflects differences in these items.

What should I look at first when comparing quotes?

We suggest scope and exclusions first, then limits, deductible and waiting periods, and the premium last.

What is a deductible, and is a lower one always better?

A deductible means you pay the first part of a claim. A lower one reduces your out-of-pocket cost in a claim but raises the premium; the balance should fit your needs.

Why is the cheapest quote not always the best?

A low premium sometimes comes from leaving out an important cover or from a high deductible. At claim time that difference can be costly.

Do quotes have a validity period?

Quotes are usually valid for a limited time; the period and price vary by insurer. Check the date of the quote when you decide.

If I have traffic insurance, must I also take kasko?

No. Traffic insurance is compulsory, kasko is optional. You need kasko if you want damage to your own car covered.

Does traffic insurance pay for damage to my own car?

No. Traffic insurance covers damage you cause to others; for damage to your own car you need kasko.

What is a deductible in kasko?

A deductible means you pay a set part of the damage yourself. The rate varies by policy and affects the premium.

What should I do first after an accident?

First make sure everyone is safe, complete a report or accident form if needed, photograph the scene before moving the car and notify your insurer quickly.

Does kasko make sense for an old car?

It depends on the balance between premium and the car's value. For a very old car kasko can stay expensive; getting and comparing quotes is the sound way to decide.

Does DASK cover the belongings in my home?

No. DASK covers only earthquake damage to the building; for belongings you need home insurance.

Is DASK compulsory for every home?

DASK is compulsory for registered homes. Check current regulations for scope and conditions; we will help you at the policy stage.

I am a tenant, should I insure?

The owner's DASK does not protect your belongings. A home policy with contents and liability cover protects them at a reasonable premium.

Does home insurance cover damage above the DASK limit?

Some home policies offer extra cover for the part above the DASK limit after an earthquake. It varies by insurer and package, so check the policy terms.

Should I update the sum insured after renovation?

Yes. If you do not update it after renovation or new purchases, there is a risk of under-payment at claim time.

Is there a difference between boat insurance and yacht insurance?

In the trade both are usually the same type of policy. The difference lies in length, value and use; larger yachts have more detailed survey and cover requirements.

Does boat insurance pay for storm or theft?

Storm and theft are generally covered under the policy conditions. Which events are covered is stated in the policy; ask for the exclusions in writing at quote stage.

Can a jet ski be insured too?

Yes. Policies with hull, theft and third-party liability cover can be written for jet skis and similar craft.

Is a boat survey necessary?

For valuable and older boats insurers usually ask for a current survey report. It also helps set the agreed value correctly.

Is the policy valid if someone else operates the boat when damage occurs?

The policy defines who may act as skipper. Unauthorised or unlicensed use can affect payment, so check the conditions before lending your boat.

What is the average boat insurance premium?

A single average would be misleading. The premium varies by insurer with value, age, type, cruising area and use. For an accurate price get a quote with your boat’s details.

Does a higher deductible lower the premium?

Generally yes. Because you agree to pay the first part of a claim, the insurer may offer a lower premium. Keep the deductible at a level you can pay.

Does a claim-free history affect my premium?

Many insurers favour claim-free years and an experienced skipper. Present your previous insurance record when quoting.

Do security devices give a discount?

Alarms, tracking devices and fire suppression can bring an advantage with some insurers. Mention them at quote stage.

Can I insure the boat for less by understating its value?

We do not recommend it. A claim is paid on the value in the policy; an understated value can mean you are not paid in full.

What is the difference between hull and P&I insurance?

Hull covers physical damage to the ship itself; P&I covers the shipowner’s liability to third parties, such as crew, cargo and pollution. They complement each other.

What is a P&I club?

It is an association where shipowners insure each other on a mutual basis. Members pay calls and the club meets liability claims within cover.

Is war risk included in a ship policy?

Standard hull policies usually exclude war and strike risks, which are bought as separate cover.

Does loss of class affect the policy?

Yes. The ship must be registered with a classification society and hold valid certificates; otherwise validity and claim payment can be affected.

Is ship insurance suitable for small businesses?

Suitable policies exist for small commercial vessels, tugs and fishing boats. It is best to get a quote with the vessel’s details.

Isn’t the carrier’s liability enough to protect my cargo?

A carrier’s liability is often limited by law and does not cover the real value of the goods. Cargo insurance is based on the value of the goods.

Should I choose ICC (A)?

For fragile, valuable or damage-prone goods ICC (A) is usually preferred. For robust, low-value cargo (B) or (C) may suffice; let us assess it for your cargo.

Who arranges insurance in an export?

It depends on the Incoterms rule in the sales contract. Under CIF and CIP the seller insures; under FOB and EXW the buyer does.

What is an open policy?

A structure that gathers all shipments in a period under one policy. It is practical and often economical for businesses that ship frequently.

What if I notice damage on delivery?

Add a reservation to the delivery document, take photos, send the carrier a written notice and tell the insurer within the deadlines.
