Home / DASK

What is Home / DASK and how does it work?

DASK is the compulsory earthquake insurance for registered dwellings in Turkey. Besides the earthquake itself, it covers related fire, explosion, landslide and tsunami damage up to a set limit. The owner of the building must take it out; it is not compulsory for tenants.

Home insurance is optional and fills the gaps DASK does not cover: fire, flooding, theft, glass breakage, storms and the like. You can also insure your belongings, kitchen and electronics. Keep in mind that the DASK limit can fall below the real rebuilding cost of your home.

Who is it for?

Homeowners must take out DASK. Both owners and tenants are advised to consider home insurance to protect belongings and possible losses.

How to think about DASK and home insurance together

DASK is compulsory earthquake insurance for registered homes and covers only earthquake-related damage to the building, up to a set limit. Your belongings, theft and water damage are outside DASK.

Home insurance closes those gaps: fire, water damage, theft and contents cover, and in some cases extra cover for the part above the DASK limit after an earthquake. Setting a realistic rebuild value and contents value lowers the risk of an under-payment at claim time.

How does the process work with Santerna?

First we listen to your needs and budget. Then we collect suitable quotes from the insurers we work with and put the cover and conditions side by side in a simple table. You make the choice; after the policy is issued we track the renewal date and stand by you when a claim happens. You can reach us by phone, WhatsApp or by visiting our office.

What does it usually cover?

  • DASK: earthquake and related fire or explosion damage
  • Home: fire, water, theft, glass breakage (depending on the policy)
  • Separate cover options for the building and contents

What to look at when choosing

  • Cases where the DASK limit does not match the home's real value
  • Whether contents cover is included
  • Deductibles and no-claims discounts

Frequently asked questions

Is DASK compulsory?

Yes, for registered dwellings. Some official procedures, such as utility subscriptions or title deed transactions, may require the policy.

Does DASK cover all damage to my home?

No. DASK covers earthquake and certain related risks up to a set limit. For fire, water, theft and contents you need separate home insurance.

Should I take home insurance as a tenant?

DASK is not your responsibility, but you may want optional home insurance for your belongings and for damage you might cause as a tenant.
